First video is the original Cat's in the Cradle. Sung by the guy who wrote it with his wife. Only Accept the Original. I wish all those people who covered this song were not born. There is only one. Unfortunately with the pulls of modern life and certain things that encroach upon the idealism that is present when " a child is born", it's not all Hallmark moments. This song is so true and no wonder it's a staple in comedy with Chris Elliot and The Simpsons etc.
Harry left us very suddenly , which adds to the sadness of the song. Details here. Just in case you did not know it. 70s music rules!

You really had to see Harry "live" to truly appreciate him - I think I saw him several times back in the 70's/80's ...his rapport with the audience, his sincerity - the way he put his heart and soul into his songs were all special ...also his charity work with world hunger was legendary ...how could you not like this guy... his songs were never main stream , but for a lot us who loved his music it was not about being popular music or trendy .. it was relating to the people he sang about ...

What I would give to have music like this, in times like these.
A well written song can change the world... Unfortunately all of the 'artist' these days have no message in their song.
I find it hard to call them artists at all, because they're not making art.

@DJL1955 you are right about seeing him in concert. i first listen to harry from a simulcast of 96.1 FM and ogelthorpe university in 1974 in atlanta, ga. the very next year i went to his concert and was surprise at the crowd, who sat in stillness, stretching to hear each story he had to tell. i went to all of his concerts until the year he died. his songs made you laugh,cry and love. like you said he was not popular or trendy but he had stories of life that occurred everyday. he is truly missed

The more I hear this song the more I miss my dad, he's been gone about a year now. We lived this song until the last year or two. And to me the song is more about the father setting an example for his son that the son follows.
