I've been nominated by Roman Surtida ( in Facebook) to choose my 10 favorite films. Post the film poster, 1 poster per day, no need to explain why and nominate a person each day to do the same. Like some who don’t go near leather, I am not good with chains. You may volunteer to post your favorite movies. No obligation. I did something similar with music albums. So instead of one movie a day here are a bunch. No particular order. Notes:
Of all the Elvis movies, no one would have guessed that one but that is just proof of the appeal of Elvis.
I have to apologize to someone at work who refuses to watch Dead Poet Society and Shawshank Redemption, sorry zero Duane Johnson movies.
Almost every James Bond is represented.
I love Monty Python but adding one would have felt forced. Maybe I should have watched one in the last 10 years.
Lot of Arny movies.
The pre Harry Met Sally Reiner very well represented.
Very few comic book movies despite being a comic fan.
the western and war films totally nudged out the rom com films.
Lots of 80s Kevin Costner including Silverado.
A few musicals but no Sound of Music.
There has to be a Chuck Norris movie on this list.
Shoestring type movies here include: Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs.
Do you believe in them? Do you live them out? I don't know about you but at my work, in the streets in other public places I always run into people who can't even spell those four concepts out let alone live with them in mind. Teach by example and the rest, I will leave it up to you.
"Expecting people who do not see the problem to solve the exact same problem "
Actually I made that up patterned after Einstein's definition of insanity.
"doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results"
Or what could be Einstein's definition of insanity since quora.com apparently questions the validity. I thought this was a reasonable extrapolation of Einstein's logic. Since what is known as Einstein's definition of insanity is actually in doubt then there is absolutely less harm adding to the thought. It is not like I am making up an 11th commandment. I think the logic ( of the amendment) is similar to a lesser quote from the 1987 classic De Palma film The Untouchables.
Eliot Ness and Malone discussing the formation of the Untouchables.
There is this teacher at work who I have usually been neighbors with in terms of our stations. He can hear me and I can hear him. Gifted teacher who a lot about a lot of things. Anyway there was this unspoken agreement between us that we help each other out if we hear gaffes in each other's lessons. When needed we send each other typewritten messages over the chat program.
Yesterday one of the topics in one of his lessons was pirates. He was telling his students about two popular groups of Pirates ( at least in Japan). One Piece is a very popular anime in Japan. The other group he mentioned was the very popular Michael Bay franchise: Pirates of the Carribean. I heard my teacher friend say that Pirates of the Carribean group is more realistic than the One Piece group. He implied that Carribean group could even exist in the real world. I replied using our message system and you can see what transpired below.
I was trying to give him helpful information that in my eyes was correct. My teacher friend is an expert in Japanese culture maybe at the expense of knowledge that you and I might take for granted. What did he do? See that "messaging disabled" it meant that after the last typed message he unfriended me in Skype because apparently he is allergic to facts and accurate information. And to think I used to buy the guy drinks after work.
There is nothing wrong with not watching the POC movie series but to me there is something wrong with making blanket statements about it that are factually wrong. I have not actually seen any of the movies in 11 years but I did enjoy the first three. If I recall the ships in the movie were captained by characters that were technically dead like Barbossa, Davy Jones and Will Turner. Dead in the human sense but alive enough to function in that world. Davy Jones is a sailor legend who has "come to life". There is even a psychedelic scene with Crabs that is available below.
Sorry to my teacher friend but the scenarios in the POC series are not happening in the modern world anytime soon. Why did I write this?? The moral of the story is you can help somebody who is trying to come across as an expert while he uses incorrect examples. You try to give him a better perspective and he will repay you by cutting you off.
